On 2 April 2024 the Federation Council approved a bill to amend the Russian Labour Code by inserting a new Article 264.1 “Guarantees for the Spouse of a Deceased Veteran of Combat Operations”.

The lawmakers have decided to grant further guarantees to widows of deceased veterans. Under the new rules, employers will be prevented from terminating the employment contract of the widow of a combat veteran within one year after their spouse was killed (died). An important condition is attached to this – namely that the widow must not re-marry.

It should be pointed out, however, that the ban will not apply in certain exceptional cases, such as when a company is wound up.

The amendments will take effect from the official publication date of the law.
